It's another beautiful day in what has been one of the best autumnal seasons we've had on the west coast in quite some time. While I know sometimes it's hard to leave the house on a cold, possibly wet, fall day, I've got a couple of upcoming shows that are definitely worth the effort!
Locarno will be back at the Fan Club on Nov 23rd. If you haven't seen this band yet, treat yourself. It's worth it! It's also the eve of my birthday, so we will be celebrating in style. Bring your dancing shoes. I'll be bringing out the marimba for this one! 8 pm start time - $10 cover I am also thrilled to be presenting a duo show with my brother Josh Layne, classical harpist extraordinaire. We will be giving an intimate house concert on Dec. 8th at Tzvi's place a beautiful communal house in East Vancouver. Marimba and harp in duo and solo form. It's been about ten years since the last time we managed to do a show together, so don't miss out! More info on coming soon

While I rarely choose to post things that are unrelated to music, this is an issue that is of great importance to anyone residing in B.C. and on a larger scale the world. Having had the opportunity to tour throughout our beautiful province every summer for the last five years, I have had the chance to see how much of our natural world still exists. I believe we must do whatever we can to preserve this beauty. http://www.defendourclimate.ca
Autumn is here and with it comes a return to routines, but most deliciously it also means plenty of feasting with friends. Made a delicious butternut squash soup yesterday with some gluten free bread, freshly baked.. mmmm. On the music front, I am looking forward to teaching and also devoting more time to composing this season as I work on my solo album. Tales from the summer are forthcoming... in the meantime, enjoy the fresh look of the website... just as the leaves are changing colour outside, so too is it time to change and grow as the seasons shift
It's been a busy spring with lots of great shows and chances to work with awesome folks. Highlights in the past month include presenting the debut of a new duo project with Ben Brown on drums and myself on marimba, teaching a drum workshop in the Comox Valley, and celebrating Cinco de Mayo with Locarno at Fan Club, one of Vancouver's newest live music venues. June means festival season is beginning and I'm excited to be a part of the following festivals around town and a ferry ride away.
