Tales from the summer

It's been awhile since the last update and I've been busy traveling across B.C., Alberta, and most recently Nevada.  Summer Festival season had many highlights for me this year.  I debuted my solo/electronic marimba show at Towards Eden Festival and will be working on producing more material and releasing some songs into the digital world this fall.  Komasket Festival at the end of July was a blast as always, friends, water, open skies, and lots of great music.  One of the highlights was Nkulee Dube from South Africa and her band.  So much energy on stage and such beautiful voices.  Tambura Rasa played on Sunday and we hosted a jam Sunday night.   I returned briefly to Vancouver after that and continued recording on the new Bocephus King CD ( more info about that later this year).  Then took to the road with Bocephus King, Paul Townsend and Wynston Minckler for a fun 11 day whirl around B.C. through Calgary and back into the Kootenays, stopping at as many lakes and hotsprings as we could and playing all our favourite spots on this circuit.  Mikey's Juke Joint in Calgary, The Blackbird Coffeehouse in Coleman, AB, Jita's Cafe in Golden, Cliff's Cafe in Enderby, and many more.

Came home to teach a week long summer camp for kids with Michelle Cormier, the beginning of School of Groove, teaching music from around the world to youth.  We will be offering more workshops in the future.  Then departed for the Black Rock Desert and Burning Man, where I had the opportunity to play lots of music and hang out with the wonderful people of Antioqua from the bay area, check out their music here.  I also had a blast with our lovely crew of people from Vancouver - dancing, exploring, cooking, jamming, stilting and generally having fun in the desert.   Burning Man is a truly timeless place full of artistic expression. wonderfully good food for the creative soul and a reminder that the only limit's in life are those of our imaginations.
